Game overview

Aura Kingdom is a fantasy MMORPG published by Aeria Games on a free-to-play format. The closed beta was released in 2013 while the open beta was released in 2014. The game is very colorful and rather cute.

This game offers you the chance to become the hero that saves the universe of Aura Kingdom from the grips of evil as well as from the bandits who, after being expelled for years have now returned with even more power than ever. The game lets you choose one of 8 different classes and one of 7 different companions , or “Ediolons” who fight at your side. The game has something for all different tastes, leaving the player with a remarkable sense of choice.

The game is most suited for children as most of the human characters in the game are young. It seems the makers of the game tried to appeal to younger gamers and kind of set aside the wants of more mature, sophisticated gamers. Taking into consideration the more RPG like choices and battle system, it's best for each individual player to form their own opinions about the game's childlike traits.

Full review

Developed by X-Legend and published by Aeria Games this classical fantasy game takes the player into a bright and colorful manga stylized world. The gameplay is easy to learn for any aged player to easily take hold of while also being fluid and customizable, making it possible for any age group to embark on their own personal adventure.

First Impressions

The game opens with a robust character creation process. It has the usual physical options such as hair, body size and facial features but it also has the standard RPG character options as well, adding a lot of different gameplay paths and reaplayabilty for the more mature gamers.

The game lets you pick one out of nine weapons which coincide with the 10 classes: Thief, Tank, Assassin, Warrior, Hunter, Bandit, Grenadier, Mage, Illusionist and Bard. The weapons determine the classes rather than the usual characteristic based class system. Later on in the game you have the option of choosing another weapon and therefore access to another classes' skill sets.

The game also lets you choose between 4 deities or Ediolons. More Ediolons exist but are probably going to cost real money in order to obtain them. The initial choice is between Astro- a sort of angel who can fly, Evie- an anime style goddess, Lina- a unicorn and Zhulong- a small dragon like creature.

Once the creation process is finished a tutorial sequences ensues played out as a series of quests. Unfortunately, after all this is finished the game constantly holds your hand. Aura kingdom constantly strives for the ease of gameplay to younger audiences leaving most of the choice making behind at the beginning. Certain players may get pretty bored rather early.

Too Slow, You Say?

The boring ambiance of Aura Kingdom lies with its almost auto-pilot effect . But one won't really have the time to get bored with the game as it will more than likely only take the player a couple hours a day to achieve the maximum level. Once achieved, the player has the option to create another character, pursing other gameplay paths or wait until further updates are released. You can only create three different characters more than that is going to cost money.

Exploring the world of Aura Kingdom is rather difficult. The levels are created in an almost labyrinth like fashion which are hard to navigate even with the mini-map in the corner of the screen. Fortunately, the game slightly makes up for this with certain “high-level areas” which do add more fun to the game.

The Presentation

The main presentation of the game is "Kawaii", or cute, simple style manga..

Aura Kingdom has graphics on its side; the characters and monsters are as vivid and colorful as their world. Some computers and internet connections may not be able to support the level of graphics found in this game, luckily there are a good amount of settings to tweak in order to better meet the player's circumstances.

It should also be mentioned that the heads-up-display and on-screen interface do take up a decent amount of space but that can be remedied by settings to make it more discreet.

The soundtrack is pretty average. Most of the songs are repeated throughout the whole adventure. None of them are special or memorable and will be easily forgotten.

Conclusion

Aura Kingdom is best described as a customizable MMORPG time killer which may also give genuine amusement to some players. The graphics and presentation are above average but hopefully the gameplay and features will receive further updates as the game still is in its beta phase. It's a good game for younger and more casual players but sophisticated gamers beware.
